It is a small church of the Moscow Kremlin, commissioned by Patriarch Nikon as an element of his stately abode in the year, 1653 and consecrated to the Apostle, Philip, after three years. Though the area for the Muscovite metropolitan had existed in the Kremlin from the 14th century, Patriarch Nikon, who aimed to equal the tsar in brilliance and dominance, had then replaced with a more challenging residence, concentrated on a wide chamber in the configuration of the cross, at one time used as a banquet hall but now functioning as a beautiful museum of applied arts. To this fine structure a domestic church belonging to the patriarchs meets from the south, which was previous dedicated to Philip the Apostle till the loyalty was altered to the present one in the year, 1682.
