Churches in Russia

Churches in Russia will present you with an environment of holiness along with a peaceful and calm surrounding. There are various churches in Russia where you can pay a visit and offer your prayers. Even if you are not of the faith then also you can also visit the cathedrals, monasteries, chapels and churches in Russia and experience a holy feeling.

Church of St. John the Warrior is situated on the Yakimanka Street. It is one of the orthodox churches in Russia in the Yakimanka District of Moscow. The church was constructed in between 1704 to 1717 at the time of the rule of Peter the Great. It is ascribed to the architect Ivan Zarudny. The address of the church is 46, Bolshaya Yakimanka. The lowlands present in between the Moskva River and the present-day Bolshaya Yakimanka Street were flooded on a regular basis in the spring season. The area was inhibited by sloboda settlements of Poles, Streltsy and ordinary farmers. The church blends ingredients of the Muscovite baroque style along with Ukrainian baroque and European influences rife in Russian architecture of the reign of Peter.

Churches in Russia also include the Church of the Twelve Apostles. This is a small cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin, accredited by Patriarch Nikon as a component of his stately residence in the year, 1653 and devoted to Philip the Apostle after three years. Even if the premises for the Muscovite metropolitan had survived in the Kremlin since the 14th century, Patriarch Nikon, who aimed to equal the tsar in magnificence and authority, had them substituted with a much more challenging residence, centralized on a wide chamber in the configuration of the cross, once used as a feasting hall but now functioning as a beautiful museum of applied arts. To this fine structure meets from the south a domestic church belonging to the patriarchs, earlier dedicated to Philip the Apostle until the loyalty was changed to the present one in the year, 1682. It is as prominent as the close by grand cathedrals belonging to the 15th century, because of its location upon a high pediment, thrust by two large arches providing passage from the Cathedral Square to the court-yard of the patriarch. The outer walls are designed with two belts of columnar arches which cite both the closely-located cathedrals of the Cathedral Square and the famous churches belonging to the 12th-century Vladimir-Suzdal school which served as their inspiration. The strict outline of five helmeted domes, in according to the taste of the conservative architectural tastes of Nikon, serves to emphasize the Byzantine pedigree of the church.

Church of Transfiguration of Savior in Bolvanovka is also shortened to Saviour in Bolvanovka. It is one of the orthodox churches in Russia at the Zamoskvorechye District of Moscow. The neighborhood, Bolvanovka, gets the name from Russian bolvan, which means a billet or a non-Orthodox cult image. Apart from these there are various churches in Russia which include Chesme Church, Vladimirskaya Church, Church of the Savior on Blood, St. John the Baptist Church, etc which you can visit while on a tour of Russia.
