Conservation Department is also responsible for management as well as the preservation of wildlife. The marine reserves and the marine areas, situated from Fiordland to Kermadec Islands are also looked after by this department. Natural heritage is preserved in these National Parks in New Zealand, which has variety of landscapes, right from wilflife to vegetation.

According to the National parks Act of 1980, these parks needs to be preserved in their natural state. This means that, the soil has to be maintained, the native plants along with the animals also should be preserved and to get rid off the new varieties, as much as practically possible. This act also stresses on the fact that these areas should also be made publicly accessible so that the visitors get to know about the natural beauties of the place and providing them the opportunity to appreciate these natural beauties.
