Adventure Sports in Mauritius

Mauritius is a tourist haven in the Indian Ocean. A bilingual (English and French speaking) island nation, Mauritius is known as the “ Pearl of the Indian Ocean” for its scintillating natural beauty. The island abounds in colorful coral reefs, crystal clear blue waters in a hundred hues, large natural lagoons, kilometers long white sandy beaches and lush tropical greenery. All the adventure sports in Mauritius are well developed as tourism is one of the main stays of the economy.

Adventure sports in Mauritius include swimming, surfing, wind surfing, snorkeling, para sailing, sailing, cruising, pedaling, diving, underwater photography,fishing and sea kayaking are popular in Mauritius. Other activities, include trekking, mountain biking, all terrain quad drives and 4x4 touring. Golf, squash, badminton, tennis, horse riding and imbibing ethnic Creole culture (with fruit rum and Creole dancing) are also there while you make your adventure sports arrangements.

The hotter humid months are December to April with daytime temperature around 28 degrees centigrade. June through October are the cool dry months with daytime temperature around 25 C / 80 F. There are over 50 flights weekly to Mauritius from major world airports with airlines such as Air france and Air Mauritius operating to the Rodrigues islands of Mauritius.

Mauritius Adventure Sports : The following adventure sports in Mauritius deserve a special mention:
  • Water skiing and slalom skiing are popular with the natives and the enthusiasts who make a beeline for the islands. There is competitive show skiing and jet skiing is not allowed in Mauritius
  • Mountain biking is a much loved pastime of the country. The mountainous volcanic origin terrain and varied green cover lends itself willingly to the sport.
  • Sea kayaking is one of the best ways of enjoying the fascinating beaches of Mauritius.
  • The deep waters are ideal for big game fishing. Expect to catch big Tuna Fish, Barracuda, Shark, Bonito, Black Marlin and of course Blue Marlin. Spear fishing is banned.
  • Watching the ocean life through glass bottomed boats and catamarans is highly enjoyable
  • In diving, lovely coral gardens are found at depths of 25 meters. The island has professional Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) centers with beginners and advanced courses and the Mauritian Scuba Diving Association is quite active.
  • You can also see the ocean's myriad treasures by semi submersible or a small submarine.
Mauritius Adventures:

  • Wind surfing is popular with the season starting in june and ending in August.
  • Archery in Mauritius is unique with 20 manmade 3D animal targets along a very good circuit covering ten hectares.
  • The Black River Gorges National Park spread over 6,754 hectares offers best trekking vistas and walking tracks and hope to see pink pigeon, Mauritius Echo Parakeet and wild monkeys.
  • There is all terrain quad driving through some of the most beautiful countryside you have ever witnessed.
  • The 4x4 Circuits are excellent for amazing scenery of coffee and vanilla plantations. Tour Falaise Rouge and return to l'Etoile for lunch.
