About the Olympic Games
The Olympic Games, or the Olympics is the international multi sport event which takes place every four years and considered as the mother of all sporting events in the world. It consists of two versions called Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics. Each of the versions is held in every four years. The Summer Olympics is more popular between the two versions of Olympics. Greece is the country where the game started at the very first time. The modern day Olympics started in the year 1896 in the same country Greece and since then it has been held every fourth year. Only during the World Wars, Olympics could not be held in the years 1916, 1940 and 1944. The very first edition of the Olympics is popularly known as the Greece Olympics. It was held in Athens in 1896. The Greece Olympics has a great impact on the history of the Olympic games. It has a lot of importance too. The Greece Olympics has set the tone for this great sporting event of the world and had a major role to play in the success of the games as well.
Greece Olympics and its Editions
There are two editions of the Greece Olympics that one can find in the history of the Olympic Games. But the first Greece Olympics has a greater impact on the history of the Olympiad. The first edition of the Greece Olympics is known as the 1896 Summer Olympics. It is also officially known as the Games of I Olympiad. Held in Athens Between April 6 and April 15, 1896 by the International Olympic Committee, the game is considered as the first modern international Olympic Games.
1896 Greece Olympics
The 1986 edition of the Greece Olympics was the first ever international Olympiad. Therefore, the number of participants in this Greece Olympics was obviously much lower comparing to the today's Olympics. But during that time, it had the largest international participation for any sporting events to that date. Though some of the top athletes of that time could not take part in this Greece Olympics, this fact could not affect the success of the games at all. A total number of 241 athletes for 14 nations were participated in the games. There were 43 events in 9 sports in the 1896 Greece Olympics, which include the games like Cycling, Athletics, Fencing, Gymnastics, Shooting Swimming, tennis, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. The first edition of the Greece Olympics was a great success and eventually became the pillar of success for the subsequent Olympics.
2004 Summer Olympics
The Olympic Games was held again in Athens, Greece in the year 2004. This edition of the Olympiad was known as the 2004 Summer Olympic Games and was officially known as the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad. Once again held in Athens between August 13 and August 29, 2004, this edition of Greece Olympics saw 11,099 participants from 202 nations. There were 301 number of events in 28 sports in this Greece Olympics.
